Cindie, my parents & myself went to Costa Rica
for a week and spent the whole time at Rara Avis. This place is a VERY
rugged place to get into and out of. My parents who are in decent shape had
a real difficult time with this place. It also doesn't have much in the way
of guides but it is truly remote and is quite a beautiful place. If they
had a full time paid guide for birds, I think this place could
really take off. It has the potential. This place has many student volunteers
and these people are great but their interests are varied and at any given
time they might not have a real bird watcher on board. The ride up and down
the mountain is actually a good birding area especially in the morning and
evening but they don't really stop for the birds along this part unless you
are insistant. You can walk down which would be a good thing to do in the
early morning but it can get quite warm if you aren't ready for it.
