A spectacular sunset at Site 1201. The weather is always perfect and the sunsets are mostly beautiful in the Philippine Sea.

Anastasia Ledwon reads a poem as part of a United Nations project entitled Dialogue Among Civilizations Through Poetry. The reading was held in hundreds of locations worldwide and at three international locations: Antarctica, the International spacestation, and the JOIDES Resolution on transit in international waters somewhere between Guam and Taiwan.



The downhole water sampler is being prepared on the rig floor for deployment.



A rare visitor on the JOIDES Resolution: a helicopter is landing on the helicopter deck to transfer personnel to Guam.



Drilling in 5,700 m water depth at Site 1201 leaves the pipe rack, which is usually filled to the top with drill pipe, empty.
