Ray Frank (Transocean Electrical Supervisor; USA) and Dwight Mossman (Dynamic Positioning Operator; Canada) keep the ship over the drill site using the dynamic positioning (DP) system. The DP computer uses information from five hydrophones that receive signals from a sonar beacon on the seafloor to control 12 thrusters and the main propellers; this keeps the ship stationary over the drill hole.
