CORK_lowered

The CORK head is lowered through the rig floor. The CORK running tool is the large rust colored tube attached to the top of the CORK head; it carries the entire CORK seafloor observatory system (~20,000 lbs) down to the seafloor and into the borehole. The little slot in the side of the CORK running tool allows the drillers to detach from the CORK head by pushing down and then rotating clockwise and pulling up. The silver-gray metal pieces attached to the side of the CORK head are the pressure data loggers.
