CONCLUSIONS

Both the texturally diverse basalt clasts and diabase clasts have similar and distinctive E-MORB immobile REE and HFSE incompatible element patterns. Much of the compositional variation among clasts resulted from seafloor weathering reactions that removed CaO and added LOI, MgO, and K2O to the variably weathered clasts. The LILE have been variably affected by seafloor weathering reactions. The presence of E-MORB basalt and diabase clasts in Early Cretaceous sediments provides evidence for mantle plume-initiated rifting on the Iberia Abyssal Plain.
