ABSTRACT

Geochemical well logs were obtained in the sedimentary sequences drilled at Site 959 (Hole 959D) of the Côte D’Ivoire-Ghana Transform Margin. Corrections have been applied to the logs to account for variations in borehole size, borehole fluid composition, downhole temperature, and logging speed and were processed to derive the concentrations of the elements Th, U, and Gd, and the dry weight percentages of oxides in Si, Ca, Fe, Al, Ti, and K at 15-cm intervals. A geochemistry characterization of the interval logged was accomplished through statistical techniques. The log-derived geochemistry characterization shows good agreement with sedimentary changes observed during core description.
