The section is displayed to accentuate the fine-scale faulting (discontinuous reflections) throughout the gas hydrate-stability zone. The high-amplitude events below 3300 m correspond to gas-charged sediments at Site 994, and continue below the BSR at Sites 995 and 997. The change in depth of the top of gas may be due to a lower methane flux at Site 994 than at Sites 995 and 997 (Xu and Ruppel, 1999).
