Figure 6. The 18O records of Site 1006 and western Pacific Site 806 are plotted against time for a direct comparison of the low-latitude Atlantic and Pacific sites. The oxygen isotope variations are much larger in Site 1006. The mid-Pleistocene revolution and mid-Brunhes warming are indicated. Mid-Brunhes warming occurred at a time when solar insolation was low (Imbrie and Imbrie, 1980) and another mechanism needs to be called upon to explain it. Maximum return flow of surface waters from the Pacific around the tip of Africa is a possibility.
