This volume is available in HTML and Acrobat PDF format. HTML is intended for on-line viewing only (click on titles). Use the PDF file to generate a printed version or to view higher-resolution graphics (click on PDF). Page references are to the page numbers in the PDF version of this volume and do not apply to the HTML version. | |
Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Exchange are required to access Acrobat PDF files. The Reader is included on all ODP CD-ROMs, or it can be downloaded for free from the Adobe WWW site. (See Adobe Acrobat Information.) | |
Acrobat files can be viewed onscreen in an Internet browser such as Netscape, if Acrobat is installed in the browser, and they can be printed to a local printer. The files can also be saved to a local system for printing, viewing, or copying. To maintain links between files, all files must be saved to the same system. | |
ASCII data and table files can be viewed or saved to a local system. The files are tab delimited and can be opened in word processors or spread sheet programs. | |
Acrobat files include navigation bookmarks to direct the reader through the volume or to the table of contents (HTML) file. | |
To access files |

Adobe Acrobat is required to access the print version chapters. To open a PDF version, click on "PDF". | |
To open the HMTL files, click on the title of the chapter for WWW browsing. | |

This volume is
available in two formats. Each chapter is available in full in Adobe
Acrobat PDF format. Acrobat files can be slow to load, but print well. The
individual chapters are also available in HTML format.
Depending on your computer platform, the following information applies. PC computers By default, clicking on a filename with a .TXT extension will launch the Notepad application. You can configure your computer�s operating system so that files on this CD with .TXT extensions automatically open in other software, such as Microsoft Excel. Follow these steps from the pull-down menu: Windows 95 and NT operating systems: View > Options > File Types; Windows 98 systems: View > Folder Options > File Types; and Windows 3.1 systems: File Manager > File > Associate. MAC computers All table files with .TXT extensions will automatically open into Excel. If you do not have Excel installed on your computer, you may view these files through other spreadsheet or text-editor programs. Open the application of your choice, select File > Open, and open the ASCII file. UNIX computers You can open files with .TXT extensions in any text editor or spreadsheet program, but not directly from PDF files. |
