ORGANIC AND INORGANIC GEOCHEMISTRY

We measured concentrations of carbonate in sediments from Hole 1139A on ~1 sample per core (Table T17). In addition, we analyzed 14 of the sediment samples for organic carbon, total nitrogen, sulfur, and hydrogen. The results of the analyses are discussed in "Lithostratigraphy".

For volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks that were analyzed by XRF, we measured total carbon, total nitrogen, sulfur, and hydrogen using the NCS analyzer (Table T18). These data are useful for assessing the degree of alteration in the basalts (e.g., total carbon and hydrogen can be converted to CO2 and H2O, respectively, and compared with LOI values). Further discussion of these data can be found in "Igneous Petrology" and "Alteration and Weathering".
