Supplementary materials provided on the Leg 191 Initial Reports CD-ROM include a collection of photographs of the preparation, installation, and activation of the borehole seismological observatories. The photographs in Figures 1 through 24 show the different steps in the preparation and installation of the borehole seismometers in Hole 1179E. Figures 25 through 31 show the operations by KAIKO, a remotely operated vehicle designed by JAMSTEC, during the October-November 2000 cruise that activated the borehole broadband seismic observatory.
