Figure F22. Unit 23 is a poorly sorted volcaniclastic breccia with green clay-rich, flow-banded volcanic clasts showing evidence for in situ fragmentation and rotation of clasts. The matrix is quartz, anhydrite, and minor pyrite. The fragments have been silicified along their rims. Veins from the matrix can be seen crosscutting the flow banding in the large fragment in the upper left of the piece (Sample 193-1189B-14R-1 [Piece 13, 86-95 cm] at 157.36 mbsf).
