Alternations of submillimeter-scaled unoxidized pyrite and phosphate layers encrust the top of Unit IV, indicating a hardground layer. Below this, altered(?) rhodoliths in a fine-grained, brownish-stained matrix with few planktonic foraminifers and neritic-derived grains are observed.
