Reflectance (L*) is a rough indicator of CaCO₃ content as demonstrated in the Hole 1210A plot where CaCO₃ is plotted as well. The abrupt decrease in L* denoted between the ages of 58.95 and 54.83 Ma represents an hypothesized shoaling of the lysocline associated with the LPTM event. Water depths are indicated at the bottom of each plot.
