Negotiations with the Epcot Science & Technology Center at Walt Disney World in Florida regarding the development of an ODP display continues to gain momentum. Epcot officials toured the ship during the Miami port call and met with ODP/TAMU representatives to further discuss potential opportunities. Dr. Ellen Kappel from JOI also met with Epcot officials in May to help lay the groundwork for an initial set design, as well as discuss contributions from ODP and the National Science Foundation.

During the last six months, 29 publications have reported news regarding ODP Legs 163-167. The Orange County Register (Santa Ana, Calif.) published a two-page article on Leg 167 using color illustrations of the ship describing the coring process. Several media representatives from Miami and a film crew from Disney boarded the ship during Leg 166 for tours and conducted interviews with scientists.

"Nova," a science program on the Public Broadcasting System, is producing a one-hour program on Tibet that will include video footage of the JOIDES Resolution and scientists working at sea. The program will air in December 1996.

Several public relations activities were held in conjunction with the Miami port call. More than 60 government, university, and community leaders attended receptions aboard the ship and at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science facility. Media representatives from seven publications and two television stations covered these events.
