We anticipate that 420 m of Pleistocene section above p6 contains an especially complete history of glacioeustatic control on the stratigraphic record back to at least Stage 12, and will be compared with the equivalent shelf sequences at Sites MAT-7B, 8B and 9B. In addition, drilling to TD will yield valuable age control on the as-yet poorly defined middle and upper Miocene sequences above m1.
