Dear all! The leg 177 deadline for manuscript submission of June 12, 2000 is rapidly approaching. To fullfil your ODP obligations you must submit your paper(s) to the ODP publication office (initial manucript submission) by the deadline=2E If you feel not to be able to submit your paper(s) by June 12, you must contact ODP (delgado@odpemail.tamu.edu) and ask for an extension of the deadline. Significant portions of the leg 177 results can be published in two special volumes, the paleoeanographic results in a special issue of Paleogeography, - climatology, -ecology (Paleo3) and the stratigraphic results in a special issue of Marine Micropaleontology. The feedback we've received and proposed papers to be included in the two special issues is quite encouraging. Attached to this mail you find two lists of titles announced to be submitted to the special issues (status May 22, 2000). Although the ODP Leg 177 deadline is on June 12 we will accept final versions of the papers for the two special issues until July 30, 2000. (This means that you need to submit your paper(s) to ODP by June 12, but you can resubmit a revised version until July 30). This procedure has been endorsed by the ODP publication office. It will give some extra time to all of those who need to incorporate the bio-magnetostratigraphic and isotope stratigraphic age models that are only now becoming available. After his return from Joides Resolution (end of May) Peter will put the available stratigraphic data on the web page as discussed during the Flores meeting. In case you did not yet sent your stratigraphic information to Peter=B4s mail address, please do this now. The bio- and magnetostratigraphic information should include the depth (mcd, mbsf) of events and their age assignment. Isotope based age models could include a simple depth/age list (pointers). Please also indicate the reference(s) that should be cited using the data or any other restrictions you wish to be considered. In your letter accompanying your submission to the ODP Publication office you should indicate if your manuscript should go to one of the special issues or elsewhere. You should also indicate if your manuscript is final or if you plan to revise the submitted manuscript until final submission by July 30, 2000. While ODP will forward copies of your manuscripts submitted by June 12 to the Leg 177 editorial board (Dave, Peter, Rainer,...), you need to submit revised versions until July 30 to the guest editors of the special issues (Dave , Rainer). After Daves return from Yucatan (end of May) we will inform you on more details concerning this. We will inform you as soon as possible on the detailed time schedule planned for the two special issues. In general, we plan to have completed the review process and revisions by the end of this year and we anticipate final submission of the complete package to the publisher between December and January for production of the special issues in the first half of 2001. It is our responsibility to see that the review process remains on schedule. We wish you all success in finishing your papers and look forward to reading about the exciting post-cruise results of leg 177. Rainer and Dave PS1: Attached to this mail you will find directions how to format your papers in the style of Paleo3. In the next few days you will get more on the formate of Marine Micropaleontology papers. PS2. In case you mark that one of the Leg 177 contributers is not on the mailing list please send a note and forward this message to this(these) person(s).
