Our first iceberg encounter on January 26 at 59°S. This iceberg is about 1.5 km long and 30 m high. What is there to do on the long transit to Prydz Bay? Michele, Kevin, Alex, and David are having fun checking out the survival suits.

Not only movies and cookie breaks: we learned a lot about Antarctic geology and other topics in a seminar series during our 2-week transit. The water gun is ready to be lowered into the water for the seismic survey as we approach our first site.

Feels like outer space: snowflakes in the "Riviera of the South." Carl and Jens, our physical properties specialists, are ready for the first cores of Site 1165. The physical properties lab was the last lab that was put back together after drydock and is being used for the first time in its new configuration.
