Status of Molspin Spinner Magnetometer Replacements

The two spinner magnetometers, recently acquired, have been installed and are working well. The PMAGIC software originally supplied was functional, but not truly adequate for our needs. However, a new version of the PMAGIC software has been provided by the original programmer and is currently being evaluated.

Purchase/Installation of the 2G Cryogenic Magnetometer

Plans for the installation of the new cryogenic magnetometer remain unchanged. The installation will take place as scheduled on Leg 168.

Dismantling of the Old Cryogenic Magnetometer at the End of Leg 167

During its spring 1996 meeting, the SMP recommended that the old cryogenic magnetometer be returned to ODP/TAMU (see SMP recommendation 96-12).

GSD-5 Tumbling Demagnetizer

The LWG is still in the process of evaluating the acquisition of a suitable instrument.
