JOIDES Resolution Tour
Drilling Operations: Hole Reentry

The captain locates a previous drill site by bouncing sound waves between the ship's hydrophones and sonar beacons on a metal device called a reentry cone. Powerful thrusters - small propellers - hold the ship in place. A remote television camera aids in positioning the drill pipe into the reentry cone.
